NEWARK: Martha H. Wilson, 85, of Newark, passed away July 10, 2013, at home with her daughter Wendy and Hospice of Central Ohio caring for her. She was born August 19, 1927, in Newark, Ohio, to the late Harry W. Rossel and Marian Evans Rossel.
Martha was raised in Newark and graduated from Newark High School in 1945. She received her college degree from Miami University where she was a member of Beta Pi Theta- French Honorary Society and Sigma Delta Pi- Spanish Honorary Society. After college she married and moved frequently with the family. Martha had many jobs in her life, including teaching languages for Licking Valley and Newark Schools, working for Ohio State University, GE, Nationwide, Virginia Health Systems, and writing for the Granville Sentinel. She was a purchasing agent for a tool company in Detroit, was an executive assistant to a city planning commissioner for Marshall, Michigan, and (one of her favorites) ran a general store for Thousand Trails Campground where she also was the accountant, among many other duties. Martha's volunteer work included the Licking County Historical Society, the ECO-Audubon Society, treasurer for Class of '45, president of Newcomers and Welcome Wagon, and Granville's Mothers Club.
In addition to her parents, Martha is preceded in death by her husband, Wendell B. Wilson. She is survived by her children Wendy B. Wilson, Leslie A. Wilson, and Chris J. Wilson; grandchildren Kai Cunningham and Sky Cunningham; sister Anne Rossel Quadrano of Milford, Ohio; brother William Rossel (Margie) of Dayton, Ohio; brother-in-law Donald Wilson (Rosie) of Thornville.
A funeral service will be held at noon, Friday, July 19, at the First Baptist Church on Granville Road, Rev. Mark Farmer officiating. A private burial will follow in Cedar Hill Cemetery for family and invited guests with Rev. Pam Roth officiating. Brucker and Kishler Funeral Home, Newark, Ohio, are in charge of arrangements.
