UPPER ARLINGTON: Wendell H. Cornetet Jr., age 89, passed peacefully Sunday, November 18, 2012. Born in Huntington, W.Va., 1923.
A graduate from Huntington High School where he became a member of the National Honor Society. Attended Marshall University where he was a member of Chi Beta Phi honorary fraternity. After high school, played trombone and did the musical arrangements for a dance band in Huntington. Later attended University of Michigan and Lafayette College. He earned BSEE and MSEE degrees from West Virginia University. While a student at WVU, he was president and charter member of Eta Kappa Nu, an honorary society of Electrical Engineering. Also a member of Tau Beta Pi Engineering honorary, Lambda Chi Alpha and Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineering. Received a Ph.D. degree from The Ohio State University, later becoming a full Professor of Electrical Engineering. Wendell was coauthor of several technical papers and text books. He was contributing writer to several professional journals and reviewed engineering text books for major publishers. After 34 years of teaching in the E.E. Dept. at OSU, he helped to found and was president of Softcad Electronics Co.
He was a member and served on the Board of Deacons at Boulevard Presbyterian Church. Received the Ralph L. Boyer Award for meritorious achievement in academic endeavors and was a Schmitt scholar to the National Engineering Consortium. Veteran of WWII. Enjoyed tennis, golf, bridge, and reading.
Preceded in death by parents, Wendell Sr. and Elizabeth Cornetet; and daughter, Jane Cornetet Hughes.
Survived by wife of 64 years, June Lester Cornetet; son, Wendell Cornetet III (Suzy); grandchildren, Wendell Cornetet IV (Emily), Christopher A. Cornetet, and Cheryl Cornetet Goodwin (John); great- grandchildren, Wendell V and Caiden Cornetet, Lucy and Marlee Goodwin, all of Columbus, Ohio; sister, Nancy Pennington (Clarence) of Hebron, Ohio; two nieces; and a nephew.
