LONGVIEW — Joseph "Jodie" Taylor Jr., 79, passed away Tuesday, January 8, 2013, due to complications from a sudden illness.
He was born December 24, 1933, in Longview, to Quincy Taylor Sr. and Eva Chumbly Taylor. His mother died when he was 2 years old, and he was then raised by his grandparents, Joseph Sr. and Letha Taylor. Later, his father married Luvern Thurmond Taylor Thomas, who helped raise him.
Joseph attended Pleasant Green School and graduated from Ned E. Williams School in 1954, A few years later, he moved to Flint, Mich., with his older brother, Preston. He was employed with General Motors
in Flint for more than 50 years.
Joseph is survived by three sons, Joseph Milton of Laneville, Ray of Dallas and Joby of Flint; two daughters, Renita and Letha, both of Flint; nine brothers, Preston of Flint, Roygus and Charles, both of Dallas, Simon, Sidney, Quincy Jr., Vermon, Kentha and Billy, all of Longview; three sisters, Reba Canida, Robbie Brooks and Cathy Wright, all of Longview; eight grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, January 19, 2013, at Swanson Funeral Home in Flint, Michigan.
