CARTHAGE — Funeral services for Mr. Mondee Adams, 87, of Carthage, Texas, will be 2 p.m. today, May 15, 2012, at the First Baptist Church of Carthage with Dr. Allen Tilley and the Rev. James Speer officiating. Burial will follow in Odd Fellows Cemetery under the direction of Hawthorn Funeral Home. Family visitation was held Monday, May 15, 2012, at the funeral home. Mr. Adams went to be with his Lord on Sunday, May 13, 2012, in Jacksonville, Texas.
Mr. Robert Mondee Adams was born May 5, 1925, in Gary, Texas, to James Harvey and Anabel Heaton Adams. The second of four children, Mondee was schooled in Gary, graduating with Gary High School. He then served his country through the
U.S. Navy, later attending Stephen F. Austin University.
Mondee married Lelma Ernestene Mims on June 22, 1946, in Timpson, Texas, and they celebrated 63 years of marriage until her death in 2009. Mr. Adams worked for United Gas Pipeline and Pennzoil, retiring after 30 years of service. A member of First Baptist Church of Carthage, he was a faithful member of the Berean Sunday school class and served as a deacon for many years. Mondee was a devoted father and grandfather, and was fondly referred to as "Papa" by all that loved him.
Mr. Adams was an avid supporter of all the activities and sports his grandchildren and great-grandchildren were involved in. "Papa" was known for his 42 playing and his love for hunting and fishing.
He was preceded in death by his wife; and sisters, Billie Jean Milford and Betty Wedgeworth.
Mr. Adams is survived by his children, Bob Adams and wife Karen of Hallsville and Jane Smith and husband Mike of Jacksonville; brother, Roy Adams and wife Judy of Houston; brother-in-law, Tom Milford of Canton; aunt, Helen Beaty of Carthage; grandchildren, Kimberly Shelton and husband Jeff of Longview, Kyle Adams and wife Robin of Longview, Bre'Aun Zamazal and husband Chad of Bullard, Adam Hoffpauir of Jacksonville, Micah Hoffpauir and wife Tiffany of Jacksonville and Bradley Hoffpauir and wife Trisha of San Antonio; 11 great-grandchildren; numerous other relatives; and a host of friends.
The family would like to give a special thanks to his caregiver, Judith Marry of Carthage.
Serving as pallbearers will be Jeff Shelton, Kyle Adams, Chad Zamazal, Adam Hoffpauir, Micah Hoffpauir and Bradly Hoffpauir. Honorary pallbearers will be the Berean Sunday school class and Mr. Adams' nephews, Mike Chambless, Todd Adams and Andy Wedgeworth.
