Funeral service for Billy Maness Carter, 73, of Pierson, FL, who passed away Dec. 30, 2013 at his residence, will be held Friday at 1:00 pm at the Dale Woodward Funeral Home 167 Ridgewood Ave. Holly Hill. Friends wishing to call and pay their respects may do so Thursday from 5 until 8 pm at the funeral home. A native of Greensboro, NC, Mr. Carter joined the U.S Navy in 1958 and was stationed in Sanford, where he met and married his wife Bettie. Billy was a veteran of the Vietnam War and served for 20 years before moving back to Florida. He then worked in construction for 8 years and for the last 20 years was the owner/operator of Carter's Country Kitchen in Pierson. Billy was a member of the Lions Club, the Masons Lodge #77, the Shriners Temple and a lifetime member of the VFW. Mr. Carter has been a member of the Town Council for Pierson since 1985. He had a passion for fishing and family. Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Bettie; a daughter, Melissa South, Pierson, FL; a son, Michael Carter, Pierson, FL; four grandchildren, Mark, Megan, Shawn and Michael; two great grandchildren, Phayden and Phoenix; a niece and her family, Mae Humble.
