Carl P. Miller, Jr., Daytona Beach, FL, passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, February 9th, 2014 at the age of 84 with his best friend and love of his life, Barbara at his side. Born on April 11, 1929 in Oak Park, IL to Gladys and Carl P. Miller, Sr., Carl attended Riverside-Brookfield High School in Brookfield, IL and Michigan State University where he graduated in 1953 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Agriculture and Applied Sciences. In addition to his studies at the university, Carl was a star discus thrower on the track team. In 1949 he broke the state record for discus throwing, proving that his discus throwing depended on his unique skill and not only brute strength. He also worked with local high school students teaching them to throw the discus. In 1956 Carl received his certificate in Real Estate from the Educational Committee from the Chicago Illinois Real Estate Board. Carl began his career as a registered Real Estate Broker in Riverside, IL. He married Barbara Lund from Riverside IL in April 1954. In 1957 Carl and Barbara moved to Daytona Beach, FL where he worked with his father-in-law Arnold L. Lund at Lund Realty until his death in 1967. In 1967 it became Miller, Lund, Sibley, Inc., then in 1980 became Miller & Morris, Inc. until his retirement in 2012. Always a team player, Carl was an instrumental member and often a directing officer of many organizations He was a member of the Alpha Gama Rho Fraternity and Varsity Club at MSU, founding member of the Junior Chamber of Commerce in Riverside, IL, deacon of Riverside IL Presbyterian Church in Riverside, IL and a member of First Presbyterian Church in Daytona Beach, FL, institutional representative of Boy Scouts in Chicago, IL, member of Volusia Pollution Abatement Committee (V.P.A.C.), a founding member of Volusia County Association for Responsible Development (V.C.A.R.D.), appointed commissioner of Daytona Beach Racing and Recreation Facilities, Daytona Beach and Ormond Beach FL Board of Realtors, National Institute of Real Estate Broker, Commercial-Industrial Division of Exchangors, Florida Real Estate Exchangors (F.R.E.E.), Daytona Beach-Ormond Beach Traders Club, Daytona Beach Chamber of Commerce, a founding member of the Daytona Resort Area Hotel/Motel Association, Professional Standard Committee of Board of Realtors, and many other community and business organizations too numerous to list. Carl enjoyed hunting and surf fishing with his friends and taking many cruises with his wife, Barbara. Carl will be greatly missed by his beloved wife and partner of over 59 years, Barbara Lund Miller; and their daughter, Karen Lynn Miller, Daytona Beach, FL; two grandchildren, Cameron Miller and Kaleigh Miller of Jupiter, FL; three great-grandchildren, Devon Miller, Riley Miller, and Khaleesi Kathryn Davis of Jupiter, FL. His son, Gary Miller pre deceased him in death. He is also survived by his brother, Robert L. Miller (Caryl) of La Grange, IL; and niece Diane Maurer of Clarendon Hills, IL.
