Funeral: 11 a.m. Friday at First United Methodist Church of Arlington in the Sanctuary. Visitation: 5-8 p.m. Thursday at First United Methodist Church of Arlington in the Great Hall. Memorials: In lieu of flowers, the family requests a donation to the ALS Association North Texas Chapter: Carol Ann Seitz Nelson was born July 4, 1955 in Daytona Beach, FL to Barbara and William Seitz. Carol grew up in Daytona Beach with her two brothers, Bill and Tom, where they loved spending time as a family going to the beach and watching sports. Carol attended Mainland High School and First United Methodist Church of Daytona Beach. After graduation, Carol attended Auburn University, the University of Florida, and received her degree in education from Stetson University. She met Rick Nelson during the summer of 1975 in Daytona Beach, and they married in 1980 at First United Methodist Church of Daytona Beach. They moved to New Orleans, LA where their first child Kyle was born. They moved briefly to Houston, TX and then settled in Arlington, TX in 1985 where they had two more children, Kevin and Jenny. Carol and Rick were members of the Upper Room class at First United Methodist Church of Arlington. She was very active in church, her children's schools, and the local community. Carol's love for teaching and children led her to become an elementary school teacher at Butler Elementary. However, her greatest passion was being a mother to her children, and she dedicated her time to raising her family and volunteering in the community. In March of 2008, Carol was diagnosed with ALS (Lou Gehrig's Disease). Carol courageously battled ALS as the disease advanced with the generous support of friends and family. During her fight, Carol's will, spirit, and faith touched the lives of all that came in contact with her. Carol wanted her friends and family to know she could not have fought through this disease without their prayers, cards, visits, gifts, and love. She was preceded in death by her mother, Barbara Seitz. Survivors: Carol is survived by her husband, Rick; son, Kyle and wife Shannon; son, Kevin and wife Lauren; daughter, Jenny. She is also survived by her father William Seitz; brother, Bill Seitz and family; brother, Tom Seitz and family; and in-laws, Martha and Neal Nelson.
