Charles Lester Graves was born on April 8, 1952, in Michigan City, IN. After graduating high school, he joined the U.S. Navy and proudly served for 21 years. He traveled the world five times as a rescue air crewman flying many helicopter missions. He retired in 1992 as a Master Chief. Charles then returned to Indiana to pursue an education at Purdue University. He graduated with a BS in Hotel Restaurant Management and relocated to Central Florida. He was employed by the Volusia County School District as the Coordinator of Maintenance and Operations for the past 15 years. He married Debra Franklin on June 1, 2013 and passed on December 29, 2013. He is preceded in death by his mother, Hazel Laverne Ames, father, Charles Ray Graves, and brother, Claude Graves. He is survived by a sister, Melinda Delamater, brother, James Graves, a son, Bryan Graves, stepdaughter, Katie Graves, and his wife, Debra Graves. A service will be held on February 1, 2014, at 2:00 P.M. The memorial will be held at the Veteran's Memorial park in Deltona, Florida. Memorial contributions can be made to the Wounded Warrior Project in his honor. Fair winds and following seas. Allison Memorial Chapel of St. Marys, GA was in charge of arrangements.
