Dorothy Davis, commonly known as Grandma Dot, ended her journey on earth peacefully on Monday, December 16. She was born in Elizabeth, N.J. on January 24, 1924, attended Plainfield High School and went on to become a Registered Nurse. She served her country in World War II in the Army Nurse Corps. On September 22, 1946, she married the late Francis X. Davis and lived with him in NJ until 1977, when they moved to DeLand, Florida, where she lived the rest of her years. Dorothy worked as a registered nurse until her retirement in 1988. Dorothy is predeceased by her son, Thomas Randal, who passed away in 2011. She is survived by two children and their families: Francis X and Terese Davis of Rumson, NJ and Mary (Davis) and Mike Welch of DeLand, FL. She is also survived by nine granddaughters: Jennifer Davis Clough of Fair Haven, NJ; Emily J. Davis of NJ; Tifni Neidhardt of Lake Mary, FL; Amy Vincent of Atlanta, GA; Laura Flynn of Port Orange, FL; Kate Briggs of Wakefield, MA; Elizabeth Berrien of Boston, MA; Heather Berrien of Somerville, MA and Sarah Welch of Tallahassee, FL. She also has five great-grandchildren: George, Annie, Xander, Leila and Colin. While so many were special to Grandma Dot, other significant people in her life include Joanie Davis, Zack Flynn, Tim Vincent, Ken Smith and Maggie Jaeger. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that donations be made to Hospice of Volusia/Flagler Counties or Habitat for Humanity International. A Mass to celebrate Dorothy's life will be held Friday, December 20 at St. Ann's Catholic Church, 26 Dogwood Trail, Debary, Florida. A reception to celebrate her life will follow.
