Edward "Sherm" Haven, age 87, of New Smyrna Beach, died Tuesday, July 15, 2014 at Ocean View Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, New Smyrna Beach. Born in Glens Falls, New York, Mr. Haven, a manufacturing production engineer, moved to this area in 1982 from Malta, New York. He served in the United States Navy as a Aviation Ordnanceman during World War II, enjoyed his work designing things (holding a patent for many years on the "Do-Jar", a hydraulic car lift) and building
race cars. Mr. Haven and his father built a family camp at Pilot Knob on Lake George, New York, where he spent his childhood and most of his summers. As a teenager, he enjoyed spending time at Haven Flying School at Schenectady Airport, earning his pilot's license at age 18. Survivors include his best friend of 35 years, Marilyn Stewart; two sons, Jon (Becky) Haven of Minnesota and Todd Haven of Glens Falls; three daughters, Lisa Daley of Schenectady, New York, Sue (Rob) Smith of Rensselaer, New York, and Allison (Tom) Shea of Jaffrey, New Hampshire; seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and one sister, Marguerite Hartle of Illinois.
