Ellen DeNeve Hill, 88, who was born June 25, 1925 in Rochester, New York, passed away on September 7, 2013 in DeLand, Florida. Ellen was preceded in death by her parents, Owen and Mabel DeNeve; and her brothers, Kenneth and Robert. She is survived by her husband of 70 years, John; sons, Jack and Ken; daughter, Judy; daughters- in- law, Deborah Romeyn and Jan Hill; grandsons, Jeffrey and CJ; cousin, Doris Kirchen; and brother in law, Irving Hill. Ellen worked 9 years in the accounting division of Eastman Kodak Company in Rochester, NY. She left this job to work as office manager for a family medical practice in Webster where she worked for 21 years. She and her husband John were founding members of the United Church of Christ in Webster. In DeLand they were associate members of the First United Methodist Church. They retired to Florida where they were members of the DeLand Country Club. Her generosity resulted in many volunteer activities. During World War II Ellen donated time to the Red Cross and the USO. After her own diagnosis of breast cancer she volunteered with Reach For Recovery, helping other women cope with this experience. Ellen's love of sewing developed into a passion for quilting. She was a member of the Piece and Patch Quilt Club of DeLand who make quilts and teddy bears for Boggy Creek, a camp for children living with chronic illness. Many of her quilts have been donated and given to people who touched her life. Ellen's greatest joy was time spent with her family and she delighted in creating special times at every birthday, holiday and visit. Ellen wrote: "Some people come into our lives and quickly go. Some stay for a while and leave footprints on our hearts and we are never, ever the same." Thank you our wife, mother, nana and friend for your footprints on our hearts. We will love you forever. The family will celebrate her life with a service on Wednesday, September 11 at 10:00 am at the Lankford Funeral Home Chapel. In lieu of flowers, anyone wishing to do so, may make a donation to Camp Boggy Creek, 30500 Brantley Branch Road, Eustis, FL 32736 or Halifax Health Hospice of Volusia Flagler, 3800 Woodbriar Trail, Port Orange, Florida 32129.
