Dr. George Warren Frison Jr., passed away peacefully in his sleep on February 8, 2013. George was born to Dr. George Warren Frison Sr. and Thresia Wolf Frison on March 14, 1929 in Philadelphia, PA. After graduating from DeLand High School in 1947, he attended Catholic University and Stetson University. He graduated from The Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine in 1955 with a Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree. As a family practice physician, Dr. Frison provided years of devoted medical and obstetric care to many patients throughout Florida. He practiced in several places, but most of his career was spent in the Volusia County area where his many patients in DeLand, Daytona, DeBary and Deltona reaped the benefits of his experienced, dedicated and considerate care. For many years, George also served as the team doctor for various DeLand High School Bulldogs sports, most notably football - a sport for which he had much passion. He played football at both the high school and collegiate level and remained an avid football fan for the rest of his life. George was married to Marie Jane Roberts Frison for 35 yrs, until she passed in 1990. Together they fostered a Catholic household rich with social, spiritual, and professional immersion. George was a devout Catholic and faithful servant to St. Ann's Church in DeBary, where he served as a lector and Eucharistic minister, & was in the Knight's of Columbus. Professional organizations include: Medical Staff Ormond Beach Osteopathic Hospital, American Osteopathic Assn, Florida Osteopathic Medical Assn, PCOM Alumnae Assn. He was also a member of the Fla Society of the American College of General Practitioners & served as President from 1981-82. Dr. Frison was a member of the Elks Club, and DeLand Country Club, where he served a term as President of the Board of Directors. George also had a great passion for music and could often be heard singing to his children and grandchildren. Despite declining health since his retirement in 2000, George enjoyed his daily prayers, his love of sports, and mostly his love of his family. He will be greatly missed by family and friends. George is preceded in death by his parents: George Warren Frison, Sr., D.O. and Thresia Wolf Frison and his wife, Marie Jane Roberts Frison. He is survived by his five children: Theresa (Dan Lahey), Lisa, George (Yvette), Marietta (Neal Gwin) and Donald (Susan); and his 13 grandchildren: Meaghan Lahey Kates (Andrew), Deirdre, Erin, & Annie Lahey; Matthew (Danielle), George Robert & Jane Cassingham; Allison & Lauren Frison; Kelsey & Katherine Gwin; Margaret & Aubrey Frison; and great-grandchildren Holland and & Aubrey Jane Cassingham. The family will receive friends Friday, February 15th, 5:00 – 6:30 with a Prayer Service at 6:30 pm at San Jose Catholic Church in Jacksonville, FL. Funeral Mass Saturday, at 11AM, at the Church. Corey-Kerlin Funeral Home, 940 Cesery Blvd. Jacksonville, FL assisting the family.
