Gloria Bell Byrd, of Ormond Beach passed away on Friday, May 3, 2013, in the company of her family and loved ones. Gloria moved to Daytona Beach area in 1953, attending and graduating from Seabreeze High School. She attended Stetson University and the University of Florida, where she joined the Kappa Delta sorority. After attending the University of Florida, Gloria moved to Atlanta where she met her future husband of 52 years, Bryant Byrd. The two left Atlanta, returning to the Daytona Beach area, and began building a family-run motel business. Gloria played an integral role in the family business. She was a loving mother, devoted wife, and exceptional homemaker. She enjoyed playing tennis and bridge with friends, going on ski trips with friends and family, and gardening. She was especially fond of cultivating roses. Gloria was a long-time member of St. James Episcopal Church. She taught Sunday school there. She served on the PTO of St. James Episcopal School. She was a member of the Garden Club of the Halifax Country, Oceanside Country Club, and Grandfather Golf and Country Club (Linville, NC). She belonged to the Junior Service League of Daytona Beach. Gloria is preceded in death by her beloved father, Oliver Bell and her mother, Marguerite Bell. Gloria is survived by her husband, Bryant Byrd; her three children, Bryant Jr., Amy, and Oliver "Stephen"; her son-in-law, Todd Donlick; and three grandchildren: Benjamin, Matthew, and Samuel, all of Ormond Beach. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, May 7th between the hours of 5-7 pm at Lohman Funeral Home; 733 W. Granada Blvd., Ormond Beach. Funeral service will be celebrated on Wednesday, May 8th at 11:00 a.m. at St. James Episcopal Church; 44 Halifax Drive, Ormond Beach. Memorial Contributions may be made to St. James Episcopal Church building fund.
