Services for Dr. George Neal Wiggins will be held Saturday, December 14 at 10:00 a.m. at First Presbyterian Church, DeLand with Rev. Michael Bodger and Dr. Patrick Wrisley officiating. Neal died Tuesday, December 3 at Halifax Health Hospice of Volusia/Flagler. Neal was born in Dothan, Alabama July 4, 1933. He grew up and attended school in Montgomery, Alabama, graduating from Sidney Lanier High School. He studied pharmacy at Auburn University where he met and married his wife of 58 years, Martha Victoria (Harrison) Wiggins. He then worked as a pharmacist for three years before starting medical school. He graduated from University of Florida Medical School in 1962 in Pediatrics. Neal and Martha moved their family to DeLand in 1965 where he started his pediatric practice. Dr. Wiggins had a big heart for "his mamas and babies". Neal was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Kiwanis Club, DeLand Country Club, Lake Beresford Yacht Club, and Brandywine Raquet Club. He was involved in getting the YMCA started in DeLand and started CHAPS, a children's medical program, in Volusia County. Neal enjoyed tennis, boating and fishing and was a Gator football enthusiast. He enjoyed children and spending time with his family. Neal is preceded in death by his father, Auvie Lee Wiggins, his mother, Cannie Mae (Brookins) Wiggins, his brother, Donnel Wiggins, and his daughter-in-law, Kim Wiggins. He is survived by his wife, Martha Wiggins, his sister, Ann Colvard of Montgomery, Alabama, his sister-in-law, Mary Wiggins of Montgomery, Alabama and her children Patricia and Gary. His children are Vicki (Rick) Bishop of Glenrock, Wyoming, Leslie (Gordon) Baylis of Bowling Green, Kentucky, George Neal (Sonny) Wiggins II of DeLand, Florida, and Laura (David) Flowers of Orange City, Florida. Neal's grandchildren are Jennifer Bishop, Jonathan Bishop, Jeremiah Bishop, Jesse Bishop, Johanna Bishop, Brennan Baylis, Camille Baylis, Trey Wiggins, Tori Wiggins, Amanda (Flowers) Levi, Harrison Flowers, Nick Flowers, and Chris Flowers. He is also survived by nine great-grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to First Presbyterian Church of DeLand.
