George Phillip Holmes, 81, of Palm Coast, Florida passed away on August 25, 2013 at the Stuart F. Meyer Hospice House, Palm Coast. A visitation will be held on Friday, August 30, 2013 from 6pm until 8pm at Lohman Funeral Home Palm Coast. A Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, August 31, 2013 at 12 noon at the Palm Coast United Methodist Church. George was born in Chicago, Illinois and raised in Florida where he graduated from Vero Beach High School. He proudly served in the United States Air force during the Korean War. He was a member of the Palm Coast United Methodist Church. George loved to attend Bible study and spent many hours volunteering his time to help out at the homeless shelter. He enjoyed camping, football, and chess. George also enjoyed a great round of golf or wonderful day fishing. He was employed for 31 and half years for State Farm Insurance, retiring in 1994. In 2001 he moved to Palm Coast from West Palm Beach with his beloved wife Betty. George was preceded in death by his parents Philip and Vera and brother Norman. He is survived by his beloved wife of 49 years Betty Moore Holmes of Palm Coast, daughter Anita La Valley (Marty) of West Palm Beach, sons Bartley Holmes of West Palm Beach, Bret Holmes (Bonnie) of Charlotte, NC, sister Vernette Streeter (John) of Vero Beach, grandchildren John Carl, Corbin, Bradley, Emily, Anna, and three great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Donations in George's name may be made to the Stuart F. Meyer Hospice House or the Palm Coast United Methodist Church. Condolences may be shared with the family online at
