Harold R. Hand, MD, age 85, of Orange City, FL, passed away Saturday, February 15, 2014 of natural causes. Harold R. Hand was born May 3, 1928 in Tower City, PA to Robert Hand and Marie Snyder. He was raised in Gettysburg, PA. In 1946, he entered the United States Navy as a Hospital Corpsman Third until an Honorable Discharge in 1948, earning the Victory Medal of World War II. After graduation from Franklin and Marshall College, he went on to earn a medical degree from George Washington University. He joined Gettysburg Family Practice for the length of his career until his retirement in 1991. Dr. Hand was known to his colleagues, residents, nurses and patients as a compassionate, caring physician with an incredible sense of humor, dedication to family, and strong work ethic. He's especially remembered for delivering over 1200 babies. He spent his retirement years in Spruce Creek Fly-In where he enjoyed golf, tennis, fishing, boating, and visits from his family and many friends. Hand is survived by his beloved wife of 58 years, Greta G. Hand, devoted daughters: Dari and Lisa, and three loving grandchildren: Jason, Tyler, and Emily. Brother, Robert Hand, and sister, Betty Michaels, predeceased him. Harold will be laid to rest at Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell, FL with military honors.
