Mass of Christian burial celebrating the life of John H. Ernst, 69, of Palm Coast, who entered in rest on Saturday, June 29, 2013, will be Saturday, July 27, 2013 at 11:00 A.M. at Santa Maria Del Mar Catholic Church. John was born in Racine, Wisconsin and moved to Palm Coast 10 years ago. He worked for the Racine Police Department for 30 years, retiring as Assistant Chiefin 1998. Following this, he served as head of security for the University of Wisconsin, Parkside and then became a popular substitute teacher in Florida and Wisconsin who especially enjoyed working with Special Ed students. John was a member of Santa Maria Del Mar Catholic Church and many civic organizations including the Elks Club, the Marine Corps League, the Kiwanis Club, and the German Club. John enjoyed hunting, golf, fishing, and bicycling and was a devoted Green Bay Packers fan. He graduated from the University of Wisconsin, Parkside with a Bachelor's Degree, and he received his Master's from Western Illinois University. John also served his country in the United States Marine Corps. He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Judi; daughters Kirsten of Philadelphia, PA and Kara of Racine, WI; brother Karl of Racine, WI; and sister Karen Olson of Kansasville, WI. John was predeceased by his brother Peter and parents Kai and Helene. In lieu of flowers, the family welcomes donations to the National Fish and Wildlife Federation, the Special Olympics, and Florida Memorial Hospice. The family of Mr. Ernst entrusted the arrangements to Clymer Funeral Home & Cremations.
