John of DeLand, Fl passed away on Wed. May 28, 2014, in San Juan, Puerto Rico. John was born on November 20, 1945, in York, PA. He moved to De Land in 1953. John was preceded in death by his parents, Chester and Margrette Richards, and his sons, James Richards and Dale Bomar, and his beloved Pepper, a Schnauzer. Survivors include his Wife of 38 years, Donna of DeLand, his daughters, Dawn Wagaman (Orvis) of College Springs La., Brenda Wheeler of Pierson, Fl, and Tracy Ma

son (Tim) of Hazlehurst, Ga. and five grandchildren, his Sisters, Sally Sprague (Daniel) and Sue Meyer (Steve) both of DeLand, and nephews. John graduated from DeLand High School, in 1964. In January, 1965 he enlisted in the Air Force, and served during the Vietnam War and received an honorary discharge in October, 1968 then served in the Air Force Reserves. John worked with Coca Cola, for several years, before, gaining employment at Sherwood Medical Company, in DeLand in June of 1972. He retired after 38 years from Covidien, (formerly Sherwood Medical Company), as a Mechanical Engineer. John was a NASCAR fan and on any given Sunday you could find him in his barn, watching the race, cheering on Tony Stewart. He loved his little schnauzer, Molly. John and his wife, Donna loved being retired, traveling, going camping and spending time with family and friends. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the Halifax Human Society (2364 LPGA Blvd. Daytona Beach, FL 32124). A visitation will be held Tuesday, June 3, 2014, from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm at the Allen-Summerhill Memorial Chapel in DeLand, FL. A funeral service will be held Wednesday, June 4, 2014 at 11:00 am at the Allen-Summerhill Memorial Chapel in DeLand, FL. Entombment will follow at DeLand Memorial Gardens in DeLand, FL.
