John V. Bennett, 85, a long time resident of Daytona Beach, FL passed away March 15, 2014. Originally from Middletown, NY, Mr. Bennett served in the U.S. Navy during World War II, before settling in this area in 1961. He and his late wife, Violet, owned and operated Ormond Liquor, on the corner of S. Young and US 1, from 1961-1983. Mr. Bennett is survived by two daughters, Michele Baker of Ormond Beach, FL and Patricia "Patty" McLellan, of Darlington, S.C.; two sons, Dean Bennett of Royal Palm Beach, FL, and Gary S. Bennett of Port Orange, FL; one brother, Robert Bennett, of Middletown, NY; one sister, Catherin Perry, also of Middletown, NY. He also leaves behind seven grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. John was predeceased by his wife, Violet, and a sister, Ruth Defao. Mr. Bennett enjoyed golfing, traveling, socializing, and spending time with his children and family. Family will receive friends at Pinello Funeral Home, 1036 Derbyshire Road, Daytona Beach, FL 32117, today (Thursday, March 20th), from 4:00pm-6:00pm, with a 6:00pm celebration led by Chaplain Roger Lee Tiffany. Interment will be Friday, March 21st, at l:00pm, at Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell, FL with military honors. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Disabled American Veterans (DAV).
