Joseph F. Daly, age 86, of Edgewater, died Thursday, December 26 at Oceanview Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. Born in Richmond Hill, New York, Mr. Daly came to this area in 1989 from Long Island, New York.
A retired battalion chief for the Fire Department of New York City, Mr. Daly also worked with Edgewater Fire and Rescue. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, attended St. Gerard's Catholic Church, and volunteered with the American Red Cross. During World War II, he served with the U. S. Navy. A graduate of Empire State College, he was also an adjunct professor at Daytona State College. Survivors include a son, Greg Daly of Arvada, Colorado; a daughter, Brenda Daly of Edgewater; a brother, Jack (Olive) Daly of Bayshore, New York; sisters, Betty (Rocky) Abitable of Brooklyn, New York, Joan (Ed) Rall of Bohemia, New York, Marge Curti of Clearwater, Florida; grandchildren, Margaret Daly of Arvada, Colorado, Liam Daly of Arvada Colorado, and Alex Barnes of Colorado. He was preceded in death by a brother, Frank Daly, and sister, Helen Munz. Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 a.m. Friday, January 3 at St. Gerard's Catholic Church, Edgewater. Inurnment will follow in Sea Pines Memorial Gardens, Edgewater. Celebration of his life will then continue at the Edgewater Firefighter Hall, 2616 Hibiscus Drive, Edgewater. The family suggests memorials to Edgewater Fire and Rescue, 1605 South Ridgewood Avenue, Edgewater, Florida 32132. Condolences may be sent to
