Larry Cowart (1940 - 2013)

Larry Cowart aka "Headly" was born in Eustis, FL on December 10, 1940. Larry was a member of the WPHS Hall of Fame for baseball, football and basketball. Headly was voted "Best all Around" of the senior class and was captain of the basketball team. Cowart went to Florida State University where he played basketball. Headly loved FSU! Cowart played basketball for the U.S. Army during the "Bay of Pigs" and continued his support for the military and veterans. After college he played in the CBL averaging 23 points per game and then went on to play in the ABA. Professionally, Larry is a past-president of the South Seminole Rotary and was named a Paul Harris Fellow. He started and hosted the Rotary Bowl. Larry also worked at Tenneco Oil, Cowart-Rollins Press, Laberge Printing, CC Greyhound Racing, RainSoft, Water Concepts of NC and Ward Realty and owned Headly's Lagoon Saloon of Edgewater, FL. Larry is survived by his mother Modern Milli Ward, his ex-wife Gaye, his daughters Brandy Bree, Becca, his son Scott, his grandchildren Brandon, Braxton, Chloe, Chase and Caden; also stepchildren: Chris, Adam, Ryan, Eric, Gil and Wendi. Headly always said with a smile: "Wave to a stranger and make a friend". Services will be held Saturday, October 26, 2013 at First Presbyterian Church of NSB at 509 Magnolia St., NSB 32168 at 10:00 A.M. with a celebration service to follow at Thrashers, 3411 S US1 Edgewater, FL 32141 at 12:00 P.M.
