Lois (Samuels) Hess, 93, of Orange City, Florida passed away on Saturday, November 21, 2013 at Majestic Oaks John Knox Village following a brief illness. She was the wife of Theodore A. Hess who died in October 2006. They were married for 65 years. She is also predeceased by her brother Jerry, Jr., formerly of Beverly Hills, California. Lois is survived by her two sons Ted Jr. and Don and their families. She also had two grandchildren, three great grandchildren; three nephews and three nieces and their families. Born and raised in Chicago, Illinois, she was the daughter of Jerome and Ruth Samuels. She attended the University of Illinois Art School and retained her love of painting throughout her life. After their marriage, she and Ted made their home in Madison and West Orange, NJ, then Allentown, PA where Ted and Lois ran their own garment business. They retired to Palm Coast, FL in 1982 and moved to John Knox in 1998. Lois will be remembered for her dedication to family and community and her courage in facing all obstacles with determination and a positive outlook. She never missed an opportunity to celebrate important events with family and friends, never missing a birthday, always willing to help organize the next event. The family is not planning a local memorial service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions should be made to a community charity of one's own choice.
