On November 16, 2013, at age 97, Lucille Ihrie Greaves of Ormond Beach gave up her tenacious grip on this life and left behind a legacy of accomplish-ments, public service, and decendants. Born June 2, 1916 to Harry A. and Jennie Ihrie in LaGrange and reared in Avilla, Indiana, she was a proud member of her high school state women's basketball team and attended Indiana University. She married Fred Greaves of Louisville, KY, had two children and moved to Daytona Beach in 1949. She and her husband ran various businesses. Following Fred's death in 1974, Lucille was director of purchasing for ITT Development of Palm Coast until her retirement. From her retirement until age 92, she delivered meals-on-wheels and worked as a teacher's aide at Osceola Elementary school, helping many area students with their reading skills. She was named Volusia County Schools' Volunteer of the Year. Additionally, she was an active member of the Stroker's Club and the Pilot Club that, due to her efforts, was the first local organization to participate in the Adopt-A-Highway program. She is survived by daughter Judy Conte (Jack Battenfield) and son Jon F. Greaves (Anita) who have continued her dedication to community and public service.
