Funeral service for Marvin E. Hinshaw, age 90, of Edgewater, who died Tuesday, March 5, 2013 at Flor
ida Hospital Memorial Medical Center, Daytona Beach, will be 11:00 a.m. Monday, March 11 at Settle-Wilder Chapel, New Smyrna Beach. Burial will follow at Sea Pines Memorial Gardens, Edgewater. Calling hours will be 5:00-7:00 p.m. Sunday, March 10 and 10:00-11:00 a.m. Monday, March 11 at the funeral home. Mr. Hinshaw was born in Mechanicsburg, Indiana, the second of six children to Glen and Edith Hinshaw. At age 22, he served his country in World War II as a Technical Sergeant with the Army Air Force. He was shot down over Polesti and taken prisoner for which he was awarded the Purple Heart. After the war he was employed with General Telephone & Electronics as an engineer. Upon retiring in 1983, Mr. Hinshaw moved to the Edgewater area. Mr. Hinshaw attended Edgewater Christian Church and New Smyrna Church of Christ. He was a member of American Legion Post 285 in Edgewater, the VFW, Masonic Lodge in Ft. Wayne, Indiana, East Florida Chapter of American POW Association, the Scottish Rite, and was a Shriner. Survivors include his wife, Eileen Bratcher Hinshaw; one son, David M. (Ruth); two daughters, Carolyn Davis (Mike), and Marlene Cooley; one sister, Virginia Cottongin; seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; three step-children, James Bratcher (Janet), Richard Bratcher, and David Bratcher (Cindy); seven step-grandchildren; and four step-great-grandchildren. Mr. Hinshaw was preceded in death by one grandson, Timothy Davis and four brothers, Bill, Harold, Howard, and Melvin.
