Mary B. Wood, 88, of Daytona Beach, FL passed away, Thursday, March 27, 2014 at home surrounded by her loving family. She was born December 16, 1925 to Wayne and Orletta (Rideout) Bennett in Evanston, Illinois. She met and married the love of her life, James Wood in 1946. Mary was a meticulous homemaker, an exceptional athlete in her earlier years in diving, swimming, and later on, tennis and golf. She attended the University of Illinois, co-founded and served as Treasurer of the Tennaqua Swim and Racquet Club. She was a member of the Thorngate Country Club, Deerfield, IL, a Scout Leader with the Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts of America; she worked ten years for the Illinois Scholarship Commission and eighteen years as a volunteer at Holly Hill Elementary School. In 1990 she and her husband relocated to Daytona Beach from Deerfield, IL. She is survived by her husband of 67 years, James "Jim" Wood, Daytona Beach, her son, James Bennett Wood, Seattle, WA, her daughters, Jody Settlemyre, Ormond Beach, Betty Ulmanis, Berrien Springs, MI, and Mary Jo Sheppard, Snellville, GA, by five grandchildren, Lyn Settlemyre, Kim (Geran) Williams, Tammi Sheppard, Bennett Sheppard, and Charles "Chip" Wood, and two great-grandchildren, Logan and Ashton Williams. Mary was predeceased by her parents and two grandchildren, Jaedrion and Gaelan Katz and a son-law, Ronnie Sheppard. A "Celebration of Life" will be held on Monday, March 31st at 11:00 a.m. at Lohman Funeral Home; 733 W. Granada Blvd., Ormond Beach. The family will receive friends on hour prior to services.
