Peter Xavier McCarthy courageously lost his battle with cancer the morning of September 5, 2013. A visitation for family and friends will be held on Sunday, September 8 at Lohman Funeral Home Port Orange from 4:30p.m. until 7:30p.m. A Prayer Service will immediately follow the visitation. A Funeral Mass will take place on Monday, September 9 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church at 11:00a.m. Peter was born in New York City on January 23, 1955. He was raised in Glen Cove on Long Island with his sister and two brothers. Peter earned a Bachelor's Degree at the University of Notre Dame and a MBA from Hofstra University. Over the years Peter and his family lived in Buffalo, New York and Greensboro, North Carolina eventually making their permanent home in New Smyrna Beach, Florida. Peter was an Associate Vice President at Daytona State College where he made many dear friends and colleagues. Peter's many hobbies included golf, sports, and vacationing. His children will most fondly remember their nightly Jeopardy challenges. Those left to cherish their memories are his beloved wife Cynthia (Cindy) Frantz McCarthy, beloved children Zachary John McCarthy, Amanda Rose McCarthy and stepson Brian H. Woodard of Buffalo, NY, sister Leslie McCarthy of Glen Cove, NY, and brothers, Jack McCarthy (Barbara) of Palm Coast, FL, Christopher McCarthy (Patricia) of Laurel, NY. He leaves behind many loving nieces, nephews and cousins. Peter was predeceased by his parents, John and Rose McCarthy. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations be made in Peter's memory to the . Arrangements are under the careful direction of Lohman Funeral Home Port Orange.
