Born May 31, 1947-November 5, 2012. Ron McNeeley, 65, Orange City, beloved husband, father, son, brother, and friend entered into the arms of his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on November 5, 2012. He was preceded in death by his father "Doc McNeeley" former JC Penney Co Mgr in DeLand and his precious niece, Kristen McNeeley. His valiant, courageous and positive battle with cancer exemplified proven character with all grace and dignity. He was strengthened through his deep Christian faith and the love and support of family and friends. All who knew Ron agree that he was "bigger than life". Born in Middlesboro, Kentucky he moved to DeLand in 1962 and graduated from DeLand Sr High Class of 1965. Ron played varsity basketball under Coach Murray Arnold, participated in the debate team and was honored with the Sr. superlative award "wittiest". He attended Florida State University and was a "die-hard" Nole fan. He also served his country in the U.S. Navy on the USS Enterprise during the Vietnam War. Ron was a motivated and honest business man who worked in a variety of managerial positions in the hospitality industry. However, he fulfilled his career dream by opening his first pool room in 1993, followed by his current business, " Stingrays II" near Stetson University. His business was an extension of his love and skill for billiard playing. Ron's love of family was foremost in his life. He is survived by his beloved wife of 30 years, Mary Catherine and five children: Katherine, Michael, Megan, Timothy and Mary Therese. He was an active "Dad" who mentored, coached and above all loved each of his children, as the apple of his eye. In addition to his wife and children, he is survived by his dear mother, Gerry McNeeley of DeLand; brothers John McNeeley, and Roger McNeeley of Atlanta, GA; and sister, Angie McNeeley Kolsch of Cape Canaveral Florida; and was "Uncle Ronnie" to seven nephews and eight nieces. Memorial services will be held at St. Peters Catholic Church in DeLand, Friday November 9 at 10:00 AM. Interment will be at a later date at DeLand Memorial Gardens.
