Raymond North Bray, 81, of Port Orange, passed away peacefully on Sunday, February 9, 2014 at Halifax Hospital with his son and grandson at his side. Raymond was born on November 23, 1923 in Torrington, CT to the late Albert and Ruth (North) Bray. After graduating high school he joined the military. He began his career in the military in the United States Marine Corps ultimately retiring from the Army at the rank of Sergeant First Class, after spending many years of service in Germany, Texas and Washington D.C. He served as a chef for 23 years and a General's Aide for 7 different Generals. Upon his retirement from the military he moved to Florida in 1989 and lived in LaCosta Village in Port Orange, FL. Raymond worked as a chef at the Oceanside Country Club until his retirement. His friends and family will remember his passion for cooking and entertaining. Raymond was a good bowler and enjoyed billiards and gardening. He was a true sports fan and a diehard UNC Tarheels fan. Raymond was also a lifetime member of the VFW. Raymond was preceded in death by his parents, Albert and Ruth Bray, and his Brother Albert Bray. He is survived by his son Anthony Bray and grandchildren, Jessica Knott (Shane), Joshua and Jacob and great-grandson Jaxon, his brother Thomas Bray (Chris Peterson), sister Doramae Iffland (Thomas) along with several nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his dear Alice Bray. A visitation is scheduled for Wednesday, February 12, 2014 from 11:00 A.M. - 12:00 P.M. with a funeral service to follow at 12:00 P.M. at the Lohman - Daytona Funeral Home located at 1423 Bellevue Avenue, Daytona Beach, FL 32114. A burial at the Daytona Memorial Park will follow the services at the funeral home.
