Robert P. Elwell, 82, of Ormond Beach, was born November 11th, 1930 in Warren, Ohio to the late Roy and Sadie Elwell. Robert died on November 10th, 2013. He was a resident in Warren, Ohio for 43 years. He was a graduate of Warren G. Harding High School in Warren, Ohio. While living in Warren, Ohio he served 16 years in the United States Naval Reserve. He was a 60 plus year member of the Old Erie #3 Masonic Lodge (1952). He was a 50 plus year member of Morning Light Chapter #80, Order of Eastern Star Past Patron (1963). He was active in The First Methodist Church, Church Usher, radio remote broadcaster, Scout Master of Boy Scout Troop 2, President of the Warren G. Harding Band Parents. Robert worked at Packard Electric Division of General Motors as a Tool and Die Maker for 23 years before being transferred to their new plant in Clinton, Mississippi. While working in Mississippi he received General Motors Gold Service Award for Community Service. He was president of the Society of Plastic Engineers of Mississippi, a 10 year volunteer of the Crossgate Fire Department serving as Fire Marshal and Arson Investigator. He was also involved in the Rankin County 4H Association, and President of the Crossgates Swim Club. Robert retired from General Motors as a Senior Mold Engineer after 41 years of service. He was called back in 1196 to Mississippi by Delphi-Packard and Holms Community College of Mississippi for 6 months to write and teach an associate degree program for Plastic Technology. Robert and Ruth traveled to 16 countries in Western Europe. After retiring to Florida, he transferred membership from Crossgate Methodist Church in Brandon, Mississippi to Tomoka Methodist Church in Ormond Beach. He also volunteered with the local Red Cross in Daytona Beach, Florida and the National Disaster Relief. Robert is survived by his wife, Ruth B. Elwell; two daughters; five grandchildren, and one great-grandchild. He is preceded in death by his parents, and son .There will be no memorial service.
