Sidney Harris Jackson, Sr., 87, passed away July 11, 2013 at Bishop's Glen, Holly Hill, after a lengthy illness. Mr. Jackson was born, November 12, 1925 in Daytona Beach to Arthur and Mabel Jackson. He lived with his family at Shiloh in Brevard County, where his father owned a large citrus grove. The family moved to present-day South Daytona in 1934. He graduated from Mainland High School in 1943 and joined the Navy shortly thereafter, where he was trained as a Navy gunner on a torpedo bomber. In 1948, he married the love of his life, Martha Beacham Jackson, who predeceased him in 2010. He was employed by Southern Bell from 1948-1981. He was a longtime member of Highlands Presbyterian Church and, later, Westminster-by-the-Sea Presbyterian Church. His is survived by his son, Sidney Harris Jackson, Jr. and wife, Dale, of Highlands, NC; daughter, Suzanne Case and husband, Austin, of Greenville, SC; sister, Mary Valentine and husband, George, of Flagler Beach. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews, especially his beloved nephews, Kent Valentine and wife, Dawna, Daytona Beach; and George Valentine and wife, Janet, of Flagler Beach. A Visitation will take place Wednesday, July 17, 2013 at 10 am, followed by an 11 am service at Baggett and Summers Funeral Home, 736 South Beach St., Daytona Beach. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations be made to Hospice of Volusia/Flagler. Arrangements are under the careful direction of Baggett and Summers Funeral Home.
