Stanley Reginald Jenkins Sr., 64, Sanford, departed this life Sunday, March 31, 2013. His life will be celebrated 1pm Saturday, April 6, 2013 in the Ruth J. Cusack Memorial Chapel of J. E. Cusack Mortuary, 727 South Stone Street, DeLand, with Pastor Reggie Williams, officiating. Visitation will be held today (Friday) from 4pm to 7pm and Saturday from 10am until service time at J. E. Cusack Mortuary. Born January 12, 1949 in DeLand, Florida to the late Henry & Eva Lou Jenkins. He graduated from DeLand High School; being the first black to attend, receiving most valuable player awards and trophies in football. He set and broke many records at DeLand High, where he was a running back. He was also chosen and drafted to play football with the Philadelphia Eagles. Stanley later attended Alabama A & M College, where he also excelled in football. Stanley is noted in the city of DeLand as its first black fireman. Left to cherish his memories include his children: Yale Sharp, Stanley R. Jenkins Jr., Lakeland, Florida; Akilah Woodard, New Rochelle, New York, Bryianna Jenkins, Bryne Jenkins, Lake Mary, Florida; brother: Ralph Jenkins (Arletha), DeLand, Florida; sisters: Bernice Engram, Sanford, Florida; Mary Lou Jenkins (Harold), Lakeland, Florida; Sharon J. Green (Patrick), Conyers, Georgia; a devoted lifelong friend: Phil Penland "Uncle Phil", Altamonte Springs, Florida; devoted ex-wife: Cynthia H. Jenkins, Lake Mary, Florida; special friend: Inez Paige, Sanford, Florida; 8 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and many sorrowing friends.
