Dr. Theodore (Ted) Wiseman Beiler passed away at Halifax Hospice on June 28th at the age of 89. Dr. Beiler is predeceased by his wife Dorthea (Doe), and brothers Charles, Clark, and Ross. Dr. Beiler is lovingly remembered by his son Ted, his brother David, his sister Dorothy, and his niece Roberta. Theodore Wiseman Beiler was born in Meadville, PA in 1924. In 1947 he was elected to Phi Beta Kappa. He graduated from Allegheny College magna cum laude, with honors in chemistry, in 1948. During this time he also served 3 years in the Army Signal Corps which included 18 months with Supreme Headquarters. Theodore did his graduate work at Harvard University working on the chemistry of intermediates for the total synthesis of steroids, receiving his PhD in 1952. An assistant in chemistry and mathematics at Allegheny, a Teaching Fellow at Harvard, and the son of a professor, Dr. Beiler felt a strong inclination for teaching and joined the faculty at Stetson University in 1952. He taught organic and advanced organic chemistry along with doing research work at Stetson University for the next 37 years.

Ted enjoyed travel both local and abroad having visited all 50 states and at least 60 different countries with his wife Doe whom he married in 1951. They both loved making jewelry out of the rocks and gems that they picked up in their travels. Doe passed on March 4th, 2006. A celebration of his life will be held in the chapel of the First Presbyterian Church of DeLand at 724 N Woodland Blvd on July 6th at 11:00 AM with Reverend Patrick H. Wrisley officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Stetson Universities Science Dept. or Allegheny College.
