Thomas William Corwin, age 64, of New Smyrna Beach, died peacefully Saturday, March 1, 2014 at Signature Health-care of Ormond Nursing Home, Ormond Beach, after a lengthy illness. Born in Riverdale, Maryland Tom moved to our area in 1999 from Gainesville, Florida. He received his B.A. at the University of Florida, Gainesville, and his Masters in Social Work from Florida State University in 1990. After working for 9 years as a clinical social worker at Shands Hospital, he attained a teaching certificate and taught English for 10 years at Pine Ridge High School in Deltona. In addition, he was an accomplished player of classical guitar. Tom is survived by his son, Will, of New Smyrna Beach; a sister, Lynne Withrow of Edgewater; two brothers, Scott of New Smyrna Beach and Rob of El Paso, Texas; and Aunt Alma Jamison of Las Vegas, Nevada. He was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas and Dorothy (Harrison) Corwin. Memorial service will be 2:00 p.m. Saturday, March 8, 2014 at the Settle-Wilder's New Smyrna Beach chapel.
