Wayne F. Downer, 84, of Daytona Beach passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 31, 2014. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 P.M., on Friday, June 6, 2014, at Port Orange Presbyterian Church, 4662 South Clyde Morris Blvd., Port Orange, FL, 32129.Wayne was born on February 13, 1930 in Worcester, Massachusetts to the late Ellen Hyslop and Carl Downer. Following his high school graduation Wayne enlisted in the United States Navy in 1948 serving proudly in the Korean War. During his service he earned the Korean Service Ribbon, ROK Presidential Unit Citation, and the Navy Occupation Service Medal. Following his discharge in 1952, Wayne moved to Daytona Beach. He worked locally at the Daytona Beach Fire Department and retired as a Captain after 28 years. In his free time Wayne enjoyed singing in the church choir of Highlands Presbyterian Church, golf, music, calligraphy, and being with family. He is preceded in death by his parents Ellen and Carl Downer, his daughter Nancie Downer Huckins, and two siblings: Marion Smith and Wesley Downer. Survivors include his loving wife, Susan Blanford Downer of Daytona Beach, FL; children, Terry (Ruth) Downer of Daytona Beach, FL, Carla (Jonathan) Pritchett of New Orleans, LA, Tim (Carolyn) Downer of Tampa, FL.; grandchildren, Luke (Sarah) Downer, Nathan and Thomas Pritchett, Nancie Downer; and great grandchildren, Kyleigh and Logan Downer. His surviving siblings are: W. Douglas Downer, Alden (Betsy) Downer, Marjorie Sherwood, Velma Grasseler, and Orton (Patsy) Downer. He is also survived by many nephews and nieces. In lieu of flowers donations to VITAS and the would be appreciated. Arrangements are under the careful direction of Lohman Funeral Home Daytona.
