William (Bill) M. Champion, Jr., 73, of Port Orange, beloved Husband, Father & Grandfather, passed away on Friday, November 1st at Halifax Hospital. Bill was born July 10, 1940 in Cartersville, GA and moved to the Daytona Beach area in 1947. He started his public service career as a Fireman in Daytona Beach before transferring to the Daytona Beach Police Department. During his early years on the Fire & Police Dept. he also worked part time for his father at Champion Jewelers (Seabreeze Blvd). He retired from Daytona as a Sargent after 20 years. Bill then served 18 years on the Sheriff's Department as a Ranch & Grove officer until his health forced his retirement. He was a Veteran having served in the U.S. Navy. Bill loved spending time with his family & friends including vacations fishing & lobstering in the Florida Keys, snorkeling for scallops in Homosassa Springs and traveling in the Mountains of North Carolina & Tennessee, fishing, antique collecting, digging for old bottles & flea marketing. He especially enjoyed playing practical jokes and was known for his sense of humor. He is predeceased by his father, William (Bill) M. Champion Sr., and his mother Lillian Seawright. Survivors include his loving wife & best friend of 50 years, Brenda, his daughters Cindy Weinberg (Karl), Becky Brannan (Steve) & his beloved grandson Tyler Brannan, his step-mother Gwen Champion, brother Jim Champion, sister Sharen Dean, sister Susan Grimes and many nieces and nephews.
