Christopher Julian Hanks

Christopher Julian Hanks was born April 1, 1945, and passed away peacefully on July 12, 2014, surrounded by his family in Barnes-Jewish Hospital after a brief illness. Chris graduated from Parkview High School in 1963. Chris joined the Navy and served his country from 1963 thru 1968 as Yeoman 2nd class and continued to serve thru the National Guard for many years. He returned to Springfield where he began his career in Real Estate and Banking. Chris enjoyed life to its fullest by fishing with his son-in-law and grandson Mitchell, hunting, and playing golf. He also will be remembered for his intelligence and dry sense of humor.

Chris was preceded in death by his parents June L and Dorrel T Hanks, his maternal grandparents Dr. Bruce C. and Maude Maples, paternal grandparents Rev. Floyd and Mary Hanks, sister Angela Hanks and life-long fishing buddy Fat Jack.

Chris is survived by the love of his life Connie Reed; his beloved daughters, Kristy Strickland (Jerry) and Shannon Platero (Vernon); sons, Chad Connell (Megan) and Shane Jackson; 5 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren; brothers, Dorrel T. Hanks, Jr. (Carole) and Kevin Hanks (Kathy); along with Linda Hanks (Shane's mother) and Nadine Nutt (Connie's mother).

Memorial services with full military honors will be held July 18 at 1:00pm at Gorman-Scharpf Funeral Home, 1947 E Seminole, Springfield.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in memory of Dorrel T and June Hanks, founders of the Cerebral Palsy Center, which is now the Developmental Center of the Ozarks, 1545 E Pythian, Springfield, MO 65802.
