Cory was born on December 28, 1989 to Chip and Jackie Wagoner in Springfield, Mo. He passed away at home surrounded by his family on March 29, 2014. He was preceded in death by his grandfathers, Jack J. Roberts and Ed Wagoner.
He grew up in Springfield and graduated from Glendale High School in 2008. After graduating from Glendale he attended Missouri State University for 2 years. He later enlisted in the United States Air Force, serving the Air Force as a Cyber Systems Apprentice assigned to the 49th Communications Squadron Holloman AFB NM. He was awarded the Air Force Training Ribbon, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal and the Air Force Achievement Medal.
Cory was an honorable son and loyal friend and an encourager to all who had the pleasure of knowing him. Cory loved his country and was honored to serve in the United States Air Force.
Cory was an avid outdoorsman and athlete. He loved camping, canoeing, skiing, basketball, especially when it involved his friends and family. He loved nothing more than watching the St. Louis Cardinals; he lived for spring training to begin. He spent numerous times at Busch Stadium from the time he was a toddler watching games with his family. He loved spending time at the family "cabin" on Table Rock, one of his favorite places on earth.
Cory is survived by parents, Chip and Jackie Wagoner; wonderful brother, Casey Wagoner; grandmothers, Nancy Wagoner and Juanita Roberts; aunts and uncles, Craig and Sharyn Wagoner, Cristen and Brad Jones, Cindy and Lane Pierce; cousins, Elissa and Cameron Wright, Braxton Wright, Devyn Wright, Bria Wright, Aaron and Cassie Pierce, Kerri Pierce, Tyler Pierce, Ashley Pierce, Erin Wagoner, Ali and Dustin Rich, Matt Powell and Sarah Powell, Luke, Dillon, Jayda and many loving friends.
Celebration of Life Service will be Thursday, April 3, 2014 at 12pm at Schweitzer United Methodist Church under the care of Gorman-Scharpf Funeral Home. Interment to follow at Missouri Veterans Cemetery with full military honors, 5201 S. Southwood Rd.
Reception to follow at "The Boat House" located at Lake Springfield, 5324 S. Kissick Springfield, MO 65804.
