Eugene Edward Gay

Eugene Edward Gay, age 94, of Springfield, MO, passed away Sunday, November 17, 2013 in his home of a very brief illness. He was born October 14, 1919, in Springfield, MO, to Edward Joseph and Katie (Parrot) Gay. He was a member of the Berean Baptist Church. He served in the United States Navy as a Metal Smith First Class during World War II serving in both Theatres. Eugene was united in marriage to Mabel Ruth Brame on October 11, 1958. Eugene worked for ACME Structural Steel as the shop foremen for nearly fifty years. Gene was a master wood worker, welder, and machinist. He enjoyed working in his shop at home helping neighbors and friends and building fine furniture. He also enjoyed steam engines and antique gas engines. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Norma Branch. He is survived by his loving wife of fifty-five years Mabel Ruth Gay, Springfield; one daughter, Jean Ann Lindsey and husband Russell of Springfield; three grandchildren, Karasyn, Ryan, and Troy; one brother, Kenneth Gay and his wife Ruth of Springfield; six nephews; and a host of family and friends. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Thursday, November 21, 2013, at Greenlawn Funeral Home North, Springfield, MO. Burial will be held in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be held from 5:30 p.m. - 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, November 20, 2013 at Greenlawn Funeral Home North. Memorial contributions may be made to the Hospice Compassus.
