George G. Irons

George G Irons, age 91, passed away on Wednesday, June 18, 2014 in Nixa MO. He was born on April 30, 1923 in Camden, MO. He grew up in Ray County.

George was preceded in death by his parents, George and Lenice (Gordon) Irons, two sons, Larry and David Irons, and one daughter, Kerri E Irons, two brothers, DA and Gerald Irons and one granddaughter, Kerri M Irons.

He was a member of the North Nixa Baptist Church. George is survived by his wife of 64 years; one daughter, Nancy and husband Randy Beem; a son, Steve and wife Tammy Irons; six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

George served 22 and a half years in the Army Air Corp and Air Force, 12 years as a Crew Chief and Flight Engineer, was stationed in New Guinea when World War II ended. Later stationed in Okinawa, the Berlin Airlift in Germany, Alaska, and Taiwan. He served as an Air Force recruiter for three years, and he later taught Customs and Ceremonies at the Non Commissioned academy at Seward, AFB in Tennessee, followed by service in Security Service before retiring in 1966. After George retired he was a Transportation Supervisor for the Excelsior Springs, MO school district. George later moved to the Lake of the Ozarks and was an excavating contractor for several years before moving to Nixa, MO.

Services for George will be Monday, June 23, 2014 at 9:30 a.m. in Greenlawn Funeral Home South. Visitation is on Sunday, June 22, 2014 from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.

Burial will follow funeral service at 11:00 a.m. in Missouri Veterans Cemetery, with full military honors.
