Gordon C. Appleton

Gordon C. Appleton, 89, of Springfield, passed away Thursday, January 23, 2014 at Webco Manor, in Marshfield. He was born December 4, 1924, in Wenona, IL ,. He was a member of the Lutheran Church. He proudly served in the U.S. Army-Air Corps during W.W.II where he was a decorated member of a B-17 crew. He worked for G.M.A.C. for 35 years, and retired as the Springfield branch manager. He was preceded in death by his parents: Martin Appleton and Alice Appleton a brother Glenn Appleton and a son Gordon Jr. He is survived by his wife Dorothy, daughter Janice Hedding and her husband Kris, a son David Appleton, and his wife Michele, a sister Greta Kurrle and her husband Robert, five grandchildren: Ben Hedding, Anna Anderson, Jesse Hedding, Dylan and Coby Appleton, one great-grandchild: Faye Anderson, he was also survived by several beloved nieces and nephews. Gordon will be remembered as a great husband, father, grandfather, brother and uncle, and will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

Memorial Services will be held Friday, January 31, 2014, at 11:30 a.m. in Greenlawn Funeral Home North, with burial to follow in Missouri Veteran's Cemetery.
