Harry Gilmer

Harry Lee Gilmer, Jr., 86, of Springfield, MO, left this life on Friday, April 5, 2013, following a brief illness.

Harry, son of Harry Lee and Lottie (Moody) Gilmer, Sr. was born January 3, 1927, in Tulsa, Oklahoma. He graduated from Central High School in Muskogee, OK with the class of 1944. He attended the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville, AR.

Harry was a veteran of the United States Army, having served during WWII. He had a long, successful career in the tile and marble business. He previously owned and operated Harry Gilmer & Associates in Springfield. He remained in the construction business as a construction manager with Topa Equities in the U.S. Virgin Islands. He continued working in the construction industry until the age of 81. Harry was a member of the Blue Lodge, the Scottish Rite, a 32nd Degree Mason, and a Shriner. Harry loved to garden, fish, grilling outdoors, and spending time with his family.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Harry is survived by his wife, Mary; children, David (Vickie) Gilmer of Purdy, MO; Greg (Luz Myriam) Gilmer of Melbourne, FL; Charles (Melissa) Torgeson, and Christian Torgeson, both of Nixa, MO; and Cynthia (Ethan) Cash of Ozark, MO; seven grandchildren, Christopher (Ashley) Gilmer, Amber Gilmer, PJ (Pamela Jean) Gilmer, Kristina Gilmer, Taylor Noe, Madison Noe, and Caiden Cash; two great-grandchildren, Emma Marie Ruckebeil and Vivien Rose Gilmer; and sister, Vera Scatterday of Tulsa, OK.

Friends may call at the Walnut Lawn Funeral Home from 6-8 PM, Tuesday, April 9, 2013. Graveside services with full military honors will be 9 AM, Wednesday, April, 10, 2013, in Missouri Veterans Cemetery, Springfield.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the or Peterson Outdoor Ministry.
