Jack Justus

John William "Jack" Justus, 92, passed away on March 19, 2014, in Taney County, Missouri. Jack was born on December 18, 1921, and was a lifelong resident of Taney County.

Jack served his country in World War II, and enlisted in the Army Air Corps. He rose to the rank of First Lieutenant as pilot in command and flew B-17's and B-29's.

Jack was married to Jacquelin Kingdon on May 23, 1946. Jacque preceded him in death in 2001. They had three sons who survive: John Justus, Jr. and wife Jolene of Kansas City; Jim Justus and wife Jennifer, of Branson, and Jeff Justus and wife Glenda, of Branson. There are eight grandchildren and fifteen great grandchildren. Jack was also preceded in death by his parents, Ralph and Janice Justus, and his brother James S. Justus.

Jack owned and operated Whelchel Hardware and L&J Plumbing Supply. He was an active civic leader working together with other community leaders for the purpose of expanding interests for the good of the community including being a primary originator for the Branson City Campground. He was also one of the original supporters and developers of Branson City Airport.

Jack served his community on the Branson City Council, Skaggs Community Hospital Board of Trustees, serving as Treasurer, School of the Ozarks (now College of the Ozarks) Board of Trustees and served two terms as Chairman. He was a longtime member of Rotary International and served as President of the Branson-Hollister Rotary Club. Jack received the Pioneer Award from Branson Chamber of Commerce for his service to community.

Jack was a lifelong Christian and member of the First Presbyterian Church of Branson since the early 1940's, serving as Deacon, Elder and Trustee.

Services are planned for Saturday, March 22 at First Presbyterian Church, 420 West Main Street, Branson. Visitation is from 12 Noon until 1 p.m. in the Fireside Room at the church with memorial service immediately following at 1 p.m. in the sanctuary. Burial will follow at Ozarks Memorial Park Cemetery. Services are under the direction of Snapp-Bearden Funeral Home, Branson. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations are suggested for First Presbyterian Church of Branson and Taneyhills Library.
