CDR James Lee Berry (USN RET)

CDR James Lee Berry (USN RET), 80 of Springfield, passed away on November 18, 2012 at his favorite vacation resort in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. He was born in Wheatland, MO on September 2, 1932 to the late Von and Elberta Berry. Jim married his High School sweetheart, Juanita Berry, in 1955 after graduating from SMS College. He received his commission in the Navy and after Top Gun school in San Diego, CA, was deemed a "Fighter Pilot's Pilot". After a distinguished career, including the Navy Commendation Medal; Air Medal; Combat Action Ribbon; Bronze Star and a Purple Heart, just to name a few.....Jim retired from the military life, earned a Masters degree from University of Arkansas, and moved back to Springfield to be close to family and friends. He was a member of Abou Ben Adhem Shrine Temple and the Royal Order of Jesters where he served as Director in 2001. All that knew him, loved him, and will miss him. Jim lost his beloved wife of 57 years just last month, and is now survived by his three sons, Patrick Berry and wife Gina, Ft. Lauderdale, FL; Doug Berry and wife Teresa, Memphis, TN; and Steve Berry, Springfield; three sisters, Rose Bingaman, Balwin, MO; Sally Miller, Springfield; and Becky Brayfield and husband John, Capitola, CA; seven grandchildren, Gordon, Erika, Kristen, Zac, Nic, Taylorose and Jonathon; three great-grandchildren, Harrison, Houston and Hamilton; and many other relatives and friends. A memorial service will be at 1:00 Wednesday, November 28, 2012 in J. D. Lee & Sons Funeral Home, Rogersville. Burial, with military honors, will follow in Missouri Veterans Cemetery, Springfield.
