Janice D. Kling
Janice D. Kling, 78, of Springfield passed away Friday, June 20, 2014 in her home surrounded by family and loved ones following a short battle with cancer. She was born July 29, 1935 in Nevada, Missouri.
Janice attended the University of Texas, Ohio State University and graduated with a B.S. in Business from Southwest Missouri State College in 1957. While in college, Janice was named to Who's Who of American Colleges and Universities and was co-editor of the SMS Standard Newspaper. In her professional career, Janice worked as an Assistant Buyer for Famous Barr in St. Louis which is where she met her future husband, Jerry Kling. Janice and Jerry were united in marriage on June 8, 1958. She and Jerry returned to Springfield where she worked for 27 years for Professional Answering Service, retiring as a supervisor.
Janice enjoyed playing Mah-Jong, bridge and working puzzles. Her family was the center of her life. She also held a special fondness for her dogs.
Janice was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years Jerry; his parents, Edward and Doris Kling and her parents, Milton and Helen Deutsch.
She is survived by her daughters, Julie Rowan and husband, Steve; Susan Gilmore and husband, Darren; sons, Mark Kling, Stephen Kling and his wife, Denise; grandchildren, Michael, Benjamin, Rachel and Shelby; brother, Bob Deutsch and wife, Pam; sister, Karen Stewart and husband, Don; and several nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, June 24, 2014 in Temple Israel Cemetery with Rabbi Rita Sherwin officiating, under the direction of Gorman-Scharpf Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Monday in the funeral home.
