John E. "Jack" Rafferty

John Edward (Jack) Rafferty, 81, of Willard, passed away Thursday, January 17, 2013. He was born December 15, 1931, in Coon Rapids , Iowa , to Floyd Vincent Rafferty and Loretta Cecelia Kult Rafferty.
Jack's family operated the local movie theater in Coon Rapids and he worked his way through all the jobs to become chief projectionist. It was while spending time in the projection booth with the then projectionist that Jack began building model airplanes. This skill became a life time hobby, progressing from gas propelled to battery operated remote control planes.
After High School graduation in 1949 he studied at the University of Iowa in Iowa City to become a certified radiology technician and worked in the hospital there. Jack worked in several construction related occupations such as manager of a pre-stressed concrete operation and lumber yards.
Jack later trained as an adult in leadership in Boy Scouts of America finally coming to southwest Missouri as District Scout Executive. He was inducted into Order of the Arrow and directed Arrowhead Boy Scout Camp one summer. While in Missouri he met his future wife and was married January 20, 1967.
Having experience in the building materials industry, Jack became an employee of Meeks Lumber working in the General Office as a buyer. Jack retired in 1996 after 25 years with Meeks.
Jack was a member of Willard-Mt Zion Presbyterian Church where served as an elder and faithful member.
Jack is survived by his wife, Anna Colleen Rafferty of the home, his son, Mike Rafferty of Coralville, Iowa and David Mann and wife, Natalya of Willard; granddaughter, Alexandra Erwin and husband Mike, of Lawrence, KS; sister, Arlene Pevestorf and sister-in-law, Geraldine Rafferty, Coon Rapids, IA; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Wayne; brother, Richard; and sister, Helen Reid.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday, January 21, 2013, in Willard-Mt Zion Presbyterian Church, 800 AB Highway , with burial in Wesley Cemetery , Willard. Visitation will be Sunday, 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. in Wilson Funeral Chapel, Ash Grove. Memorials may be made to Willard- Mt Zion Presbyterian Church.
