CSM John Joseph Phelan, Jr.

John Phelan, age 79, passed away May 18, 2012. John was born in East Jewett, New York on January 26, 1933 the son of John J. Phelan, Sr. and Francis (Judd) Phelan. John joined the U.S. Army at 17 years of age and served for over 25 years and fought in both the Korean and Vietnam Wars. After his retirement from the military, he worked for the City of Springfield.

John was preceded in death by his parents, sister; Marilyn Kenney, brother; Edward Phelan and his two sons; Ronald J. Phelan and Mark Allen Phelan.

John is survived by: his wife of 59 years, Louise Phelan, daughter, Donna J. Phelan-Smith, grandsons, Steven Alex Smith, Shawn Ronald Smith, son - in law, Steve Smith, daughter - in - law, Nancy N. Phelan, his sister, Kathryn Fromer of N.Y., his two brothers: Wayne Phelan of FL. and Peter Phelan of KY., as well as many nieces, nephews and many special friends.

Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, May 22, 2012 in Greenlawn Funeral Home South with burial following in Missouri Veterans Cemetery. Visitation will be from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. Monday, May 21, 2012 in the funeral home.
