Joseph J. Purma
Joseph John Purma Jr. passed away on July 12, 2014. He was born on March 9, 1926 in Holyrood Ks. to Emma and Joe Purma Sr.
He attended high school in Holyrood. He was well known for his football and track records. Upon graduation at age 17, during WW2 he enlisted in the U.S.Navy. At the end of the war he returned to Holyrood and married Geraldine Hafeman of Dubuque Kansas. In 1950 they moved to Wichita, KS where he became a roofing contractor. In 1960 he moved his family to San Diego Ca. where he retained his roofing business. He later retired as a roof inspector for the Navy and Marine Corps in San Diego.
He is survived by his son, Joe III and wife Judy of Taneyville, Mo; daughter Carol Edgar and lifetime companion Paul Reuther of Springfield Mo; son, Curt Purma of San Diego Ca; son, Greg Purma of Fair Grove Mo; son, Doug Purma and wife Ronda of Bolivar Mo. He was blessed with 12 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife Gerry of 46 wonderful years and a daughter Patti Jo Lawson.
He was a member of American Legion Post 0676 and the Independent Order of Foresters. He will always be remembered for his love of his family and humorous story telling.
A visitation will be held on Saturday, July 19, 2014 from 9-10 am at Klingner-Cope Family Funeral Home at White Chapel, 5234 W State Hwy EE (Division) Springfield, MO with a service to follow at 10 am. Officiating will be Pastor Douglas Purma and Pastor Gray Nordan.
