Lucile passed away peacefully in her sleep in Maple Wood Care Center in Springfield on April 29 at age 101.
She was born on April 17, 1913, and was preceded in death by her parents, Mary Rebecca Jones Caldwell and Opal P. Caldwell; her beloved husband of 61 years, Dale Cassity; three brothers: Virgil, Milfred and Leland Caldwell; and one sister, Hazel Caldwell Condren.
She will always be loved, appreciated and missed by all who survive her. Her children, followed by grandchildren, were: Gwindale Cassity Miller (Jared Cassity Miller and Cassity Blake Miller), Dr. Michael Cassity (Sharel, Christopher, and Austin Cassity), and Nancy Cassity Owensby (Katie Owensby), and two great-grandchildren, Ashley and Bailey Rose Miller. She is also survived by her sister, Wilma Davison; two brothers, Lowell and Gordon Caldwell; and by numerous nieces and nephews.
Lucile was a public school teacher for 40 years. She began teaching in a rural one-room school and ultimately retired from the Springfield Public Schools. She was loved and respected by her many students.
Lucile was a charter member of South Haven Baptist Church, where she was a devoted Christian and still has many loyal friends. She was a nurturer. Lucile took care of her younger siblings at age 15 following her mother's death. Above all she was a devoted wife to Dale and a loving mother to her children.
Visitation will be held May 3, 2014 between the hours of 9:00 a.m. and 10:00 a.m. followed by the funeral service. Both, visitation and the service will be held in South Haven Baptist Church, 2353 S. Campbell Ave., Springfield, MO, with internment immediately following in Hazelwood Cemetery. Services have been entrusted to Greenlawn Funeral Home South.
