R.C. "Rocky" Nelson

Richard Clell "Rocky" Nelson, 80, Rogersville, passed away Tuesday, August 26, 2014 at his farm.

He was born on May 29, 1934 in Ozark, Missouri, the son of the late Clell S. and L. Vivian (Ellingsworth) Nelson.

Rocky was part of the Greatest Generation and served in the U.S. Marine Corp where he was a member of the Cobra Platoon. He loved his farm, raising Charolais Cattle and hanging out with his friends at the local restaurant in Rogersville. He was a member of the American-International Charolais Association, Sertoma International, Mount Olive Lodge No. 439, Scottish Rite, SMSU Tau Kappa Epsilon Alumni of Beta Omega Chapter and a charter member of Elks Lodge No. 2777 in Ozark.

He had many friends who checked on him daily and was loved by all who knew him.

He is survived by his daughter Dianna Loftis Wheeler and husband Mark, Strafford; his son, Richard C. Nelson, Jr. and wife Tina; and his beloved lifetime companion, Roswitha "Rosie" Stegall; his granddaughter, Brittany Nelson, all of Springfield; a grandson Michael Cash Nelson, Cary, NC; his great-grandson, Raishon Dodson, Springfield; several nieces, nephews, cousins and many, many friends.

Visitation will be held from 6 - 8:00 p.m., Friday, August 29, 2014, with Masonic services beginning at 7:00 p.m., in the funeral home.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, August 30, 2014 in J.D. Lee and Sons Funeral Home, Rogersville. Burial, with military honors, will follow in Highlandville Cemetery, Highlandville.
