William "Bill" Ball

William "Bill" Ball passed away in University of Missouri Hospital, Columbia, MO, February 2, 2014, with his wife at his bedside. He was born in Springfield, MO, to George W. and Neta I. Ball, who preceded him in death. As a young man at High Street Baptist church, he accepted Christ into his life.

Surviving him are Gloria, his wife; brother- and sister-in law Bob and Shirley McCullough; nephew Matt and Carrie McCullough and their children, Riley and Courtney, all of Springfield; and niece Sarah and Ben Leslie and their children, Tinsley and Tennyson, of Salem, AR, and many other relatives and friends.

Bill attended Parkview High School through his junior year then graduated from Spokane High School. He then attended SMS and Drury University. He was active in Shifters Car Club and in baseball. Other interests included a love of cars, model trains, St. Louis Cardinal baseball, bowling, and traveling. A people person, he loved to share stories and jokes wherever he went.

His work career included employment at Royal McBee, Ozark Airlines, U. S. Postal Service, American Family Insurance, American National Insurance, Yellow Freight, Jones Truck Lines, and American Freightways. He retired as night manager at Harter House.

Proud of his military experience in the U. S. Army, he served in Chu Lai, Vietnam, after training at Fort Leonard Wood, Fort Sill, and Fort Hood. After returning from Vietnam, he became a Mason and a Shriner.

A Time of Remembrance for Family and Friends will be observed Saturday, February 8, 2-4 p.m. at Walnut Lawn Funeral Home. Military honors with interment are scheduled for June 6, 2014, at 2 p.m. at the Missouri State Veterans Cemetery, Lake Springfield.
